Using Eventive Reader

To turn on the Eventive Reader, press and release the power button. The status light turns on to indicate power. The Reader waits for a Bluetooth connection for five minutes before turning off.

When the Reader is connected the status LEDs on top of the reader flash four times. After connecting, the first green status light begins flashing at five second intervals. The reader stays connected to your iOS or Android device while in standby mode and automatically exits standby mode when you resume activity.

When connected, the reader automatically turns off after 10 hours of inactivity. You can turn off the reader manually by pressing and holding the power button for four seconds. You don’t need to turn off the reader to conserve power. When the reader turns off, the four LEDs light up and then turn off one by one to indicate it has turned off.

With typical usage, you only need to charge the reader fully once per day.

BBPOS Chipper 2X BT (the black reader):

Whenever the Eventive Reader is turned on, the LED located beside the power button shows the reader’s current status. This is what the lights mean: None: The Reader is off.

  • Flashing blue every second: The Reader is on and ready to connect to a device. Will turn off after 5 minutes.

  • Multicolored flashing: The Reader has been discovered using Bluetooth Proximity and is ready to connect.

  • Steady blue: The Reader is connected to a device.

  • Flashing blue every 5 seconds: The Reader is in standby mode. Will remain in standby mode indefinitely.

  • Alternating red and magenta: The Reader is charging.

  • Flashing red: The Reader’s battery is low.

  • Rapidly flashing blue and orange: The Reader has finished installing a software update. If the Reader is unresponsive after the update completes, restart the Reader by turning it off and on.

Additional information about the BBPOS Chipper 2X BT can be found here.

Pair with Eventive iOS apps

Tap Settings in the lower right corner in the Eventive Box Office app, select Eventive Reader on the Settings page, and tap Connect Reader after powering on the Reader and holding it close to the device.

Note: If there are firmware updates to the reader that need to be installed, they will be installed at this time before the reader will connect. Firmware updates do not require any additional action or input from you, but they may take a few minutes to complete. When opening your box office, please be aware of the potential of updates to plan your opening procedures accordingly.

In Eventive Scanner app, enter Rush Line mode by tapping the credit card icon on the upper right, tap the "Tap to pair with an Eventive Reader" link at the bottom of the Rush Line page, then turn on the Reader and hold it close to the device.

Collecting Payment

You can tap an NFC enabled card or mobile device on the NFC ("tap to pay") icon on the Eventive Reader, dip and hold a chip card into the slot on the top of the reader, or swipe a mag-stripe card through the swipe slot on the back of the reader.

Statement Descriptor

When using Eventive Reader, your credit card statement descriptor is limited to 22 characters. By default, your statement descriptor is you organization name. You can create a custom statement descriptor for each event bucket in the Misc tab of the Configurator.

Charging the Reader

To charge the Stripe Reader M2 use the provided charging cable. For BBPOS Chipper 2X BT, use the included micro USB cable. Please note the USB port does not work for connecting the reader to a device — it’s only for charging.

Troubleshooting steps for Eventive Readers

If your Eventive Reader is not connecting within a reasonably short period of time, please try the following:

  • Ensure that any nearby devices that are bluetooth enabled are not competing to communicate or pair with the reader.

  • Ensure that when pairing the reader that the pairing is being done from inside the Eventive app. If the reader has been discovered by the device’s bluetooth settings or the bluetooth settings of a nearby device, it may not be available to communicate with the Eventive app. If the reader is connected to the device or a nearby bluetooth device via the bluetooth settings, go to the device settings > bluetooth, click on the reader (it will be identified by the S/N on the back of the reader) and then click “Forget this device”.

  • Make sure that bluetooth usage is enabled for the Eventive app you are trying to use. To do this, go to your device settings > Box Office or settings > Scanner and make sure that Bluetooth is toggled to On.

  • If the reader was previously paired with another iOS device, please ensure that it was properly disconnected from that device. If it has not been properly disconnected from that device, then it may not be available to communicate with the new device that you are trying to pair it to.

  • Check for updates to the Eventive app that you are pairing the reader with. You can do this by opening the Apple App Store on your iOS device and then clicking your profile icon in the top right corner of the app store followed by “Purchased” - an update button will appear next to any app on the device that has the update available.

  • After updates for reader firmware or Eventive apps have been installed, if the reader will not pair, quit the app (close it entirely on the device) and relaunch the app so that any updates will have the chance to take effect. To quit an app, open the App Switcher, then swipe up on the app. To relaunch the app, go to the Home Screen (or the App Library), then tap the app to open it.

  • If the reader is not showing as a discoverable device within the Eventive app, make sure to quit ALL apps currently running on the device and try again. The reader should connect no problem.

If these troubleshooting steps don’t resolve your connectivity issue, please reach out to us via the support chat in your Evenitve dashboard or reach out to Stripe via the “Contact support link” in the Stripe Support Center.
