Add a Membership Rule
To create or edit membership rules, select Membership Rules from the blue bar at the top of the membership bucket settings page, then click Add new rule.
When you click “Add new rule” a new rule block will be added to the page. Click edit to start configuring the rule.
Rule Name
By default, the membership rule will be called “Membership Rule #” (where the number represents the sequence in which the membership rules were created.
It is best practice to name your membership rules something descriptive that will help you understand them at a glance.
Example: for a 15% off discount on a pass order, you might call the rule something like “PASS - 15% - Festival All Access Pass”
For global rules, you might also include an abbreviation for the event bucket that the rule applies to in the Rule Name.
A good descriptive name will be easily scannable, help you put your rules in the right order and help anyone proofing your membership rules understand what the intended purpose of the rule is.
When editing your membership rules, if you change the result, be sure to reflect that change in your Rule Name as well so that they always match.
Example: If you change your Pass Discount from 15% off to 10% off, be sure the change the rule name from “PASS - 15% - Festival All Access Pass” to “PASS - 10% - Festival All Access Pass”
Membership Rule Type
Under "Type," you'll specify whether the Membership rule will apply to Ticket orders (for free or discounted access to tickets), Item orders (for buying concessions or merchandise) or Pass orders (for discounted or free access to buy other Passes or memberships).
Pass Rule Target
Under "Target," you will specify to which pass or membership buckets the rule should be applied. The pass bucket target can target both passes and memberships.
Select Apply to all pass or membership buckets, or specify the pass or membership buckets that this rule will apply to in the dropdown menu.
For example, if all members with a Cinema Membership can receive 25% off purchases of All Access Festival Passes or Ticket Bundles, you would specify The All Access Pass and Ticket Bundles from the dropdown menu.
NOTE: if the All Access Festival Pass and ticket bundles are in another event bucket, make the rule a global rule and target the festival event bucket with the global rule.
Membership Rule Result
You MUST specify a result in this section, or the membership rule will have no effect on the price of buying other passes or memberships. Select either:
Percent off (0 - 100) of the list price for selected passes or memberships
Dollars off of the list price for selected passes or memberships
Only add one result! If you add a number under "Percent off," leave the "Dollars off" line blank.
Use Restrictions
Number of target memberships per membership: Limit the number of passes or memberships that can be ordered with this membership rule. If you leave the line blank, members can use this membership to redeem an unlimited number of discounted passes or memberships.
Global Rule
Checking this box allows you to apply this membership rule to event buckets other than the one in which it was created. This is especially useful for applying membership benefits added in membership event buckets to a specific year's festival or event.
Save Changes
When you finish creating a rule or editing a rule, click Save to record the change. Clicking save will close the editing window for that rule. A summary of the rule will now be displayed on the membership rules page.
To exit the rule editing window without saving your changes, click “Close”.
Create Multiple Rules
Create an unlimited number of membership rules and they will be combined, or "stacked." For example, a 50% off discount from one rule + a 25% off discount from another = 75% off total. Membership rules are applied in order, so you can control a cascade of benefits however you choose to design them.
Re-order Membership Rules
If you discover that the order of your membership rules needs to be changed, so that the benefits and restrictions apply properly in sequence, you can change the order of your membership rules by clicking the arrow buttons that are located next to the “Edit” button in the membership rule list, or next to the delete button in the membership rule editing window.
Next Up
Create as many membership rules as you'd like, and make sure you save each one. You can always modify/delete rules as desired.
